The Virgins are Donald Cumming, bassist Max Kamins, guitarist Xan Aird and drummer John Eatherly. Fridöm talked with Donald, about their new album 'Strike Gently' produced by Cult Records, from Julian Casablancas´label. It will be due out March 12 on Cult Records.
Fridöm: Five years have passed since your album debut, how have you changed personally and musically speaking?
I’ve changed a lot. It was really cool making this record because we recorded a lot of the songs while recording and it really reflects what we sound like as a band.
Fridöm: How was the experience working with Julian Casablancas´ label Cult Records?
It’s been great. Julian and everyone at the label is really cool, and it’s been a lot of fun working with them.
Fridöm: What is the story behind your new single "Flashbacks, Memories and Dreams"?
It’s a song that grew out of us playing together and all the main tracks were recorded live. When you capture a live performance you are able to freeze frame whatever unique elements come out of each persons playing.
Fridöm: What records have you been listening over the last couple of months? Any new bands we should listen to?
I listen to a lot of instrumental music, recently i’ve been pretty into Iranian folk music.
Fridöm: Right now you are not on the road, but you do it often. What is something you always bring with you that most people may not think of?
I really don’t like carrying luggage so I try not to bring anything with me that won’t fit into my backpack.
Fridöm: Finally, any plans to come to Latin America this year?
Definitely want to come play some shows after the records out. Looking forward to seeing you guys soon!
